Patientco Leadership Team
Bird co-founded Patientco in late 2009 due to his own frustrating billing experience following the birth of his first child. Combined with his expertise in the payments industry, he recognized an opportunity to create a faster, easier, and more secure payment experience for both patients and providers. His dedication to improving patient payment models led to his recent appointment to the HIMSS Revenue Cycle Improvement Task Force.
Prior to creating Patientco, Bird co-founded and served as CEO for BroadSource Inc. While transforming the venture-funded company into one of the leading Telecom Expense Management companies, BroadSource was twice listed by INC magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies in the United States.
He also serves as an Advisory Board member of the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), a start-up accelerator that helps technology entrepreneurs launch and build successful companies.
Bird is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.
Joshua co-founded Patientco after seeing an opportunity to take his expertise in consumer-centric product design to the industry that needed it most. As VP of Product Development, Joshua is responsible for Patientco’s technology strategy and product direction as well as customer acquisition.
Prior to Patientco, Joshua was a member of the International Product Development team at CareerBuilder.com, specializing in product integration with key partners such as Virgin Media, AOL, and Lycos.
Joshua holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he graduated with Highest Honors and was the recipient of the prestigious President’s Scholarship Award. In 2014, Joshua was named “CIO of the Year” by the Georgia CIO Leadership Association (GCLA).
A long-time business leader and entrepreneur, Mike joined Patientco in 2017 as Chief Operating Officer. He oversees all company operations including product development, engineering, implementations, account management and customer support.
Prior to Patientco, Mike served as a Director at Georgia Tech’s Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) and as a mentor at Techstars, two of the country’s most successful tech incubators/accelerators.
Mike helped start, scale, and manage ZC Sterling’s insurance division, which grew to over $250 million in premium and eventually sold to QBE, one of the world’s top 20 insurance providers. Before joining ZC Sterling, he served as an executive and CIO at GE Capital’s auto warranty division where he led product development, engineering, and customer service.
He also spent 7 years at Accenture where he engaged with St Joseph’s hospital in Denver, Ciba Giegy (now Novartis), a payor called Comprecare, and Amgen.
Mike has a Masters of Science in Information Systems with a minor in Finance from the University of Colorado, Boulder and a B.A. in Economics and a minor in Psychology from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA).
As Chief Strategy Officer, Alan develops strategies and supporting plans for Patientco to deliver unique value to its clients – which in turn supports Patientco’s growth goal to become the premier payments solution in healthcare.
Prior to Patientco, Alan served as a Managing Director in Accenture Strategy’s Healthcare practice where he led projects addressing many of his client’s most pressing issues related to growth and innovation for leading Providers and Payers. Before Accenture, Alan was an early employee with NetSpend, an award-winning consumer payment start-up which later became publicly traded.
Alan holds an M.B.A. from the University of Texas McCombs School, with High Honors, in addition to a B.A. in Economics from the University of Texas.
Sean Joyce is responsible for leading both the Product and Engineering teams at Patientco. His primary focus is on crafting a product roadmap that aligns with the company’s strategic plan. His responsibilities also include feature development, hosting and application security, and leading Patientco’s team of software engineers.
Prior to Patientco, Sean was Director of User Experience for ADP’s Professional Employer Organization (PEO) business. While there he launched the PEO industry’s first Affordable Care Act compliance software for employers.
Sean holds BA in Computer Science from Eastern Michigan University and an MBA from Emory University.
Maria oversees all sales planning and leadership, establishing a standard of quality, accuracy, and process consistency. She ensures that the sales team is aligned with the other teams within the company.
Prior to Patientco, Maria Frantz was VP of Operations for AchieveIt which covered key areas; customer success, training, technical support and consultative services. Maria has worked with clients to create over 1000 strategic and operation plans through strategic planning software. Maria also founded a patient engagement technology company, Medical Home Run, which encouraged primary care patients to interact with their patient portals, take patient satisfaction surveys and learn about chronic diseases during the office visit. She has been certified by the American Society of Quality as a Lean Six-Sigma Green belt and is a recipient of the Merck’s Outstanding Women Award.
Maria holds a Master of Science in Statistics from Rutgers University, Masters of Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Science in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
Louise Cherry Barber
Louise is focused on culture and career development as an integral part of our strategic success at Patientco. As we grow, the components of our culture that got us here need to change and evolve so she spends her time balancing the wellbeing of our current team and adding new members to the team to keep the momentum going.
Before Patientco, Louise was the Sr. Director of Talent Management at Earthlink, where she held several roles prior to her promotion.
She holds a BS Business Administration from Wake Forest University and an MBA from Georgia State University.
Meredith oversees the Client Success Team which includes professional services, onboarding and account management. She works closely with the Sales Team to ensure a smooth handoff from sales to delivery and ultimate long term client success.
Prior to Patientco, Meredith was a Senior Manager with the CapGemini/Ernst & Young Healthcare Technology practice, where she held several previous roles. She specialized in large-scale EHR system selections and implementation engagements, including Epic, Cerner, Siemens and McKesson. Meredith started her career at McKesson implementing the STAR revenue cycle suite.
Meredith is a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and holds a Bachelors in Industrial Engineering with a certificate in Health Systems.
