Chicago, IL – June 19, 2014 – The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has awarded Richard Cheek, CHFP, of Patientco the certification of Fellow (FHFMA) – a recognized marker of leadership and professionalism.
Cheek, an HFMA member since 1986 and HFMA Georgia Chapter participant, earned this prominent designation by demonstrating a significant level of expertise, service, and commitment to transforming the healthcare finance industry.
After 30+ years in healthcare revenue cycle and IT, Cheek joined Patientco in February 2013, bringing his experience and passion for process improvement into part of the healthcare industry that needs to change – patient payment automation. He currently covers a large territory for Patientco as a Regional Sales Manager.
Cheek joined the South Carolina Chapter of HFMA in 1986 and served in various chapter leadership roles including Board Member, Secretary and Treasurer before relocating to Georgia. He is currently an active member of the Georgia Chapter and serves as a co-chair of the Education Content Committee. In recognition of his service to HFMA, Cheek has received the Fulmer Bronze, Reeves Silver, and Muncie Gold awards. The Georgia Chapter recently recognized his service by presenting him with the HFMA Medal of Honor.

The FHFMA certification is the organization’s most elite professional certification. By earning the right to include this designation among their credentials, Fellows have demonstrated that they have achieved a gold standard in technical proficiency. This achievement signals a personal commitment to improving expertise and advancing professionalism.
To be awarded the FHFMA distinction, applicants must be credentialed as a certified health care financial professional; be an HFMA member for at least five years; complete a bachelor’s degree or 120 semester hours from an accredited college or university; and volunteer in HFMA or the industry. More than 1,800 individuals have received this honor in the organization’s 68 year history.
HFMA currently offers three levels of certification: Certified Revenue Cycle Professional (CRCR), Certified Healthcare Finance Professional (CHFP) and Fellow (FHFMA).
